Watanabe Sake Brewery was founded in 1909 in Kamejima Shinden, Renjima-cho, Kurashiki City, which was opened by land reclamation during the Edo period (1603-1868). 90 years will soon pass in 2019, and the Watanabe Sake Brewery still retains the appearance of an old-style sake brewery, with its corrugated iron walls, brick stacks, and cedar beads hanging in the storefront. In recent years, Eiki Watanabe, the current fourth-generation master brewer, has been practicing "high-mix, low-volume" sake brewing to produce good quality sake at a reasonable cost. This year, Watanabe Sake Brewery has welcomed a new master brewer, Tokihiro Fujii, to take on the challenge of brewing a new type of sake.
