The company was founded in 1724 in Shiogama, a port town facing the Pacific Ocean. Since then, the company has brewed sake as the sacred sake brewery of Shiogama Shrine, the first shrine in Mutsu Province with a history of over 1,000 years. The nearby Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, attracts many tourists every year, and the city is dotted with numerous sushi restaurants, where visitors can feast their palates on fresh seafood from Sanriku, one of the world's most famous fishing grounds. Blessed with a rich climate, Urakasumi is characterized by high-quality sake brewing and the expression of regional characteristics. We insist on using local rice such as Sasanishiki and Manamusume harvested in Miyagi Prefecture, one of the best rice-producing areas in Japan, and aim for a well-balanced flavor that goes well with the abundant seafood off the coast of Sanriku and the local food culture. We also aim to broaden the enjoyment of sake while communicating the local climate by creating sake-based liqueurs using ingredients produced in Miyagi Prefecture.
