- Founded in 1915. The brewery was named "Kin-no-i" after the Ichihasama district of Kurihara City in the northernmost part of Miyagi Prefecture, Kanada Village at that time, which produced good water and rice. In 1987, Mikinori Miura, the fourth generation of the family, joined the brewery and in 1996, Nanbu Touji was invited to join the brewery to start sake brewing. With a focus on diversity in sake rice, the brewery has contracted with farmers throughout Japan to cultivate sake rice, and recently has been focusing on brewing sake using locally grown rice. Wataya" is a sake that accompanies food, a sake that is friendly with food, and we continue to refine the quality of our sake to recreate the spirit of our founder in the modern age, with the theme of brewing delicious and enjoyable sake.
