- Established in 1724 (Kyoho 9). The brewery is located in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, and both sake "Goyuji" and wine "HOCCA" are brewed by members mainly in their 30s. They bring the sensibility of wine to sake and the sensibility of sake to wine. We are working daily to create classical yet playful sake, and in 2012, Junpei Sato, the 6th generation brewer of Tadenokawa Shuzo, took over the business, bringing it to its current structure, which is mainly made up of younger members. The main brand name, "Wagamichi," is derived from the words of Zen Master Dogen (founder of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism), "I am one with time. The name "Wagouji" expresses the spirit of forgetting time and immersing oneself in ideal sake brewing. Our goal is to create a sake that blends tradition with a playful spirit, adds flair to meals, and can be passed down from generation to generation.
