The concept of sake is "Sake that is uniquely Japanese." Fusakichi Sugita, the founder of the company, moved from Chuetsu, Niigata Prefecture in the early Meiji period and started the company. The founder brewed sake himself, and was so impressed with the quality of the water that he began brewing at the former Nakamura Kamiizumi, where the brewery has continued to operate for four generations.
