- We are a small sake brewery located in northeastern Tochigi prefecture, the northernmost prefecture in Tochigi. In 1892, Eisaku Watanabe, the first generation of Echigo Toji sake brewers, began sake production in a rented barn of a farmhouse in Tochigi Prefecture. In 1902, when the brewery moved to its current location in Susaki, Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture, the name of the brewery was changed to "Kyokko" (meaning "rising sun" or "rising up") to bring luck to the brewery. The brewery was incorporated in 1955, and today Hidenori Watanabe, the fifth generation of the family, is the head brewer and chief brewer. 〜The sake that is loved by the locals is "Jizake" and not just sake made in the local area. This is our company motto. It is an everyday sake that is rooted in and loved by the local community. We also aim to be a sake brewery that contributes to the community. We are often asked the question, "What is the distinctive flavor of your brewery? We have a Daiginjo with an aromatic and mellow flavor, a special junmai dry sake that goes well with meals, and a local standard Asahi Koko Dry sake. We also have a special junmai dry sake that goes well with meals, as well as a special junmai dry sake with a rich aromatic flavor. We make a wide variety of sake, including the slightly unusual sparkling sake and red sake, so it is difficult to put it all in one word. This is because we want people of all ages, nationalities, and races to drink sake made from Japanese rice culture. In this sense, our brewery's distinctive flavor may be "sake that makes the drinker happy.
