- Founded in 1872. Tamura Sake Brewery produces sake by the Tamagawa Josui in Fussa City, Tokyo. The Tamura family has lived in Fussa Village, Tama County, Musashi Province (now Fussa City) for generations. The oldest document shows the name of the ancestor "Hanjuro Toyoshin" in the late 1600s, and it is believed that the family was one of the old families that pioneered Fussa Village. The founder, "Kanjirou (Kenshin)," established a chain-like relationship with nearby brewers and liquor stores, and as the head brewer, provided sake brewing techniques and management know-how to establish a consistent organizational structure for sake brewing and sales. The number of breweries numbered 24 in the Bushu area (Tama district, Kanagawa Prefecture, and part of Saitama Prefecture). The family seal "kaneju" was used as the seal of this organization. Around 1973, the 15th generation "Hanjuro Tamura" produced "Maboroshi no Shu Kaisen" (Maboroshi no Sake), which became the masterpiece of the Tamura Sake Brewery. It was groundbreaking to sell a highly refined honjozo sake, which was originally a special grade sake, as a second-grade sake. The sake was priced to be affordable, yet the quality of the sake was excellent, making it a best-seller that continues to this day. In 2008, the current head of the brewery, the 16th generation "Tamura Hanjuro," took over the brewery's name, and in 2022, the brewery will celebrate its 200th anniversary. The family motto is "brew with care and sell with care. While working to improve the quality of all our sake brands, we are pursuing the Tamura Sake Brewery's unique style of sake brewing in line with our family's spirit of "enterprising spirit.
