- In 1983, Sado Meijo Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Tenryo-hai Brewery, was founded. In 2018, when the brewery faced the threat of closure due to a lack of successors, Senichi Kado took over the business through an M&A deal and set out on a new path. In 2019, the company launched the new brand “Utasho” and made a major shift toward sake brewing that “thoroughly pursues quality.” Tenryo-hai Shuzo’s brewing philosophy is “New Niigata Tanrei.” Tanrei sake is defined as “light and elegant.” We aim for a sake that is light and elegant, unobtrusive, and possesses a dignified, calm presence that stands a step back. We continue to craft sake that expresses the essence of Sado, making full use of the blessings of nature: rice grown on the island alongside the red-crowned cranes that inhabit Sado, and the mineral-rich, moderately soft water shaped by the island’s unique geography.
