It is said that before October 1897, when the sake brewing business was first started, the Maruyama family made their living making sake and even had a sales channel as far away as Shinano-kuni (Nagano Prefecture). In memory of his predecessors, Maruyama Sake Brewery continues to make traditional handmade mash. Normal sake and junmai sake are made using the box koji method, while other products are made using the lid koji method.
