- Matsui Shuzo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1726 (Kyōhō 11). Our brewery, nestled in a lush natural setting surrounded by the 36 Peaks of Higashiyama and the Kamo River, overlooks the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Shimogamo Shrine to the west, and Mount Daimonji to the east. After a long hiatus due to underground construction work, we resumed operations in 2009. The brewery owner serves as the head brewer, crafting sake alongside a small team of brewers. Our sake is not merely aromatic or dry; it is characterized by being delicious and full of flavor, drawing out the “umami of rice”—its sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, and astringent notes—to the fullest. Throughout our 300-year history of sake brewing in Kyoto, what we have cherished is not the strength of the sake itself, but its role as a companion to people’s lives. “Sake that deepens joy and heals sorrow” Kamikura is completed in harmony with people, space, and cuisine. Winner of the Matsuo Taisha Sake-1 Grand Prix.
