- Founded in 1820 during the Edo period (Bunsei 1820), the company is a brewer of locally brewed sake and authentic shochu, and has followed the family motto of "the master himself should make the sake" since its establishment. The name "Kitaya" was given at the time of the company's founding to express the company's desire to "share many joys through sake.
